Tsushima Airport・対馬やまねこ空港

Tsushima Airport Building.

Tsushima airport is a very small airport on the Japanese island of Tsushima, which is located between Korea and Japan (but actually closer to the Korean main land than to the Japanese main land). Its Japanese name has the name Tsushima Yamaneko Airport 対馬やまねこ空港 (= Tsushima Leopard Cat Airport), named after the indigenous wild cat breed found on Tsushima. There are only 2 destinations and only 2 cities that serve Tsushima: Fukuoka and Nagasaki, both on the southern Kyushu island of Japan. Both are flown by either Oriental Air Bridge (a local Kyushu-based airline mostly doing island hopping) or ANA. The journeys to both destinations take less than an hour and are conducted with De Havilland Canada (DHC) dash propeller planes.

The airport is tiny but neat, with a waiting hall before security (which also has a TV), one souvenir shop that also has a corner that offers some light food and drinks. There are no jet bridges, which means that both arriving and departing will lead through the same path (on which way the baggage claim is) outside to board the plane outside. I did not see an observation deck at the airport, probably one of the few in Japan that does not have one.

More Yamaneko merchandise. Apparently, a number of cats are sadly killed in accidents every year, hence the need to advertise to stop the roadkill.
