Hanabi in Ichikawa-shi

After 3 years suspension due to the pandemic, summer festivals are finally back in Japan. This weekend, together with a friend, I visited the fireworks in Ichikawa, a city in Chiba, bordering Tokyo. Streets were very crowded. So crowded in fact that we could not make it to the main venue near the river to see the fireworks However, we were able to make it very close and watched from a safe distance. It was a good show. Near the end, we went to a nearby supermarket, grabbed a drink, and waited for the masses to go home until it felt less crowded for us to also make our way home.

Good to see summer festivals being back in Japan, although a bit crowded.

On the way to Ichikawa, we stopped by at Kinshicho for dinner at a Thai restaurant and got a nice view on Tokyo Skytree. After almost a decade living here, I have yet to visit the observation deck.

Fireworks in Japan are always a spectacle, and these were no exception to the rule.

Near the end, the sky is usually brightened up a lot.
