I have been to Munich or Nuremberg many times. Both for personal reasons and for work. When I was working in Germany, I was working near Nuremberg for many weeks for multiple years. During that time, I always tried to visit either Bamberg or Bayreuth. I am not sure what fascinated me so much about these towns, but I think for Bamberg it was the fact that I am a big fan of the Schlenkerla Rauchbier brewery which is from Bamberg, and for Bayreuth, since it is famous for hosting the annual Wagner Festspiele.
During a family visit in August 2023, I was staying in Nuremberg and decided to visit Bamberg on the last day of my stay. And I have to say it was worth it. Not only is the city itself very interesting, I was also able to visit the famous Schlenkerla Rauchbier Brewery, one of the places on my bucket list. But first about the town. The old city center is worth a visit, with its traditional houses, old churches, and public art installations. I think whatever way you go through the town, it keeps being interesting. The Schlenkerla Rauchbier Brewery is is situated right in the middle of the city center, not far from the river. As expected, you can get multiple types of Rauchbier (smoked beer that smells and tastes like bacon), both in normal Pilsner type and Weizen type. The food is also very good and I have ot say that the prices are very reasonable, especial when I remember what I have paid a few days before in Nuremberg

This work of art was introduced and erected on the occasion of the millennium celebration of the Bishopric of Bamberg in the year 2007. It was a project of the Villa Concordia, the international artists’ house in Bamberg. Placed on the slopes of St. Michael’s Mount, it is a dry fountain made of concrete, a bowl of granite and imbedded vines. In the run up to the Bavarian Gardening show 2012, this hill side of St. Michael’s Mount was reinstated as a vineyard.
