A particular Ramen らーめん (Japanese noodle soup, well actually from China but the Japanese copied it and made it better ) restaurant near my apartment caught my attention due to their ads on the street showing delicious Hokkaido-style Ramen. I passed by a lot of times, but never really had the chance to go there until now. Mutsumiya Ramen むつみ屋らーめん is the name of that chain restaurant and they have a couple of stores in Tokyo and this particular shop in Akebonobashi 曙橋, Shinjuku-ku 新宿区. The food truly is delicious, I haven't had such a good Ramen in a while. I especially like the Hokkaido variety 北海道風 of Ramen (usually with corn, butter and cubic meat), which they serve. Their special dish is the North Blessing Ramen 北の恵みらーめん, which has corn, butter and bacon as toppings, making it taste as something between Miso Ramen 味噌らーめん and carbonara pasta. I liked this mix a lot and can recommend the place. The only downturn is the size of the dishes, which might seem a bit small especially for Western customers.

The tables in Mutsumiya むつみ屋.

At the bar, typically as in a Japanese Ramen restaurant, the customers see the cooks.

The most famous dish of the shop. 北の恵みらーめん, blessing of the north. The name derives from the kind of Ramen, which can usually be found more frequently in Hokkaido 北海道, the northern-most island of the Japanese archipelago.

Miso Ramen 味噌らーめん for 800 Yen.

The menu. Prices are reasonable, although portions are not as generous as the customer might expect.

Yummy, which one to choose? Shoyu Ramen 醤油らーめん (left) or North Blessing Ramen 北の恵みらーめん (right). The sauce of the latter especially is very delicious. A bit like carbonara pasta sauce.

And, of course, no good Ramen らーめん meal goes without the obligatory Gyoza 餃子 side-dish. :)
