This one was planned a long time ago by the authorities. I speak of nothing less than the destruction one of the former glorious buildings of socialistic East-Berlin: the Palast der Republik (Palace of the Republic). The building used to house the former East-German parliament and a lot of restaurants as well as art galleries. More than 15 years ago, it was discovered that the building was contaminated by building its structure partly upon asbestos, a cancer causing material. By now, only part of the whole structure still is visible and the face of the area around "Alexanderplatz" completely changed.
I am staying near the demolishion ground a lot these days and today, given the preconditions of very bad weather and a bit imagination, i was reminded of the wasteland found in the famous game series Fallout, perfect for a game of Gotcha! (i.e. Paintball), I would say. :)

Interestingly: "About 35,000 tonnes of steel that once held this building together are now being shipped to the U.A.E. to be used for the construction of the Burj Dubai."
