Colored Ribbons

Tokyo Metro is not only one of the fastest way of transportation in the city but also seems to sees itself responsible for educational issues. So lets review todays lesson: did u ever thought about what do all the coulored ribbons mean people occassionally wear to show sympathy with something? Well here is the clue, at least for 4 colours:

  • the pink ribbon - the meaning of the pink rippon is to express sympathy with those who suffer from breast cancer and of course to raise awareness

    • the orange rippon - although it seems to have quite a lot of meanings, the one in this case is a symbol against the prevention of child abuse

    • the red ribbon - this one should be well known, its a symbol for the fight against the HIV-virus i.e. aids

    • the blue circle - the symbol for prevention, treatment and cure of diabetes
Not only is the meaning of those 4 symbols (of which the red ribbon is certainly known to almost everybody) interesting for those who care but also the fact, that during certain times, the Tokyo city government is showing sympathy with those symbols by illuminating famous building in the city.

As it is shown in the pictures, the Tokyo Tower is illuminated in blue color on the 14th of November, the world diabetes day. The Rainbow bridge shines in orange color during November. Also, the Metropolitan Government Building 東京都庁 is illuminated in pink color in October.
