The Shard, Europe's tallest structure, opened its viewing platform in February 2013 to the public. When I visited London in 2013, I wanted to visit The Shard on its opening weekend. However, tickets had to be booked online in advance.
This last week, when sitting for exams in London, I finally had the chance to visit The Shard's viewing platform. The first thing I want to mention is the price for a ticket up The Shard (306m high). When purchasing the ticket right before the visit, it costs 29£. 29£! That is roughly 37 Euro! Fo comparison: I paid about 25 Euro to go up the viewing platform of the Burj Khalifa (828m high), which is more than twice as high as the London skyscraper.
This being said, the view from The Shard is actually quite nice, provided that it is not a cloudy or rainy day. The river Thames and the many landmarks scattered through London provide for a really astonishing view over what is probably Europe's most vibrant city.
There are 3 viewing platforms on The Shard, the highest is located on the 72nd floor. It is open to the top but unfortunately, there is not a single spot without the glass ceiling making it almost impossible to take pictures without any glass reflection, especially on a very sunny day.
